Un blog del docente per promuovere l’apprendimento partecipativo della musica nella scuola secondaria di primo grado

Il blog di didattica della musica Aulodie è nato inizialmente per mettere a disposizione dei miei studenti (sono un docente di musica nella scuola secondaria di primo grado) un insieme di materiali sonori che l’editoria scolastica non prevede, attingendo all’attuale disponibilità di risorse on-line. L’iniziale risposta entusiastica degli studenti mi ha incentivato a trovare dei metodi sempre più efficaci per sfruttare le potenzialità di apprendimento cooperativo e interattivo all’interno della piattaforma del blog. Nel corso di tre anni, attraverso un costante lavoro di miglioramento e integrazione dei contenuti, l’uso di questo blog si è consolidato all’interno di una metodologia di insegnamento che considero innovativa e che ritengo particolarmente efficace nello specifico musicale. Nel processo educativo che ho elaborato, la lezione frontale costituisce spesso il momento iniziale di un’attività, che successivamente si sviluppa sulla piattaforma on-line attraverso la partecipazione diretta dei ragazzi: in questo modo gli studenti collaborano attivamente alla realizzazione del sito, inserendo commenti agli articoli, aggiungendo materiali o proponendo le proprie creazioni musicali all’interno delle attività coordinate dall’insegnante. Si tratta quindi di una didattica che, attraverso gli strumenti del web, prevede un alto grado di motivazione e la partecipazione diretta degli studenti in un contesto collaborativo. Durante l’anno scolastico, i contenuti del sito vengono aggiornati settimanalmente.

Objectives and Innovative Aspects

Il blog Aulodie è stato pensato per espandere l’azione didattica nell’ambito delle due ore di insegnamento settimanali di Musica a nella scuola secondaria di primo grado, quindi senza ricorrere a finanziamenti straordinari o progetti extra-curricolari. Entro certi limiti, la struttura aperta del sito e delle applicazioni utilizzate, consente ad ogni discente di scegliere il grado di approfondimento da dedicare ai diversi argomenti: dai materiali didattici (brani ascoltati in classe, spartiti e schemi), ai software per l’educazione dell’orecchio, ai programmi di notazione o editing musicale, alle presentazioni on-line, mirando alla piena partecipazione di tutti i partecipanti. Nel complesso il sito permette di:
• Archiviare e organizzare materiali, documenti sonori, spartiti, immagini, filmati.
• Organizzare attività cooperative su piattaforme che permettono la condivisione, sia app di presentazione di contenuti non specificamente musicali (come googledoc o prezi.com); sia per app di carattere specificamente musicale (come audiotool.com o noteflight.com)
• Verificare le conoscenze attraverso test online
• Raccogliere informazioni attraverso questionari e sondaggi online (google form o polldaddy)
• Fornire consegne o tracce testuali e/o musicali da sviluppare
• Documentare i risultati raggiunti dagli studenti, favorendo la circolazione delle buone pratiche e dei successi didattici
• Educare alla partecipazione responsabile e all’uso consapevole della rete come luogo di cittadinanza

I mezzi utilizzati per raggiungere questi obiettivi sono volutamente mezzi alla portata di tutti. Per svolgere questo tipo di didattica è sufficiente un video proiettore, un pc e una connessione internet. Il servizio di blogging utilizzato è una diffusa piattaforma gratuita (wordpress.com). In questo modo il sito vuole proporre una metodologia ‘aperta’ e sostenibile senza particolari oneri economici o sofisticate tecnologie.

Le attività realizzate attraverso il blog Aulodie hanno premesso di ottenere risultati di apprendimento che, secondo la mia esperienza ormai decennale, non sono altrimenti raggiungibili nelle due ore di insegnamento settimanale di Musica nella scuola media. L’attività tecnologicamente più innovativa consiste nell’utilizzo di un sensore di movimento ad infrarossi (Leap motion) per gestire, attraverso il libero movimento della mano, la combinazione dei timbrica di un’orchestra virtuale. Tuttavia, credo che il punto di forza del sito non siano le singole esperienze, ma la continuità nell’organizzare attività creative e cooperative tra gli studenti. Dal momento della prima pubblicazione, nel 2012, il blog ha raccolto più di 150.000 visite. Ora, durante il periodo scolastico, il sito riceve circa 5.000 visite al mese. Gli utenti prioritari sono i miei studenti diretti, ogni anno circa 250/260 ragazzi tra gli 11 e i 15 anni, con i quali il sito viene utilizzato sia classe che per le consegne a casa, talvolta con la logica della flipped classroom. Gli studenti partecipano sovente inserendo i propri commenti agli articoli o inviando sul blog i propri brani musicali. Il sito però riceve molte visite anche da utenti “esterni”, attraverso i risultati dei motori di ricerca: studenti in cerca di informazioni, colleghi, semplici appassionati di musica.

What lessons can others learn from your project? (max. 1500 characters): 

Il sito Aulodie inoltre è diventato un riferimento di in alcuni contesti di formazione degli insegnanti di musica. L'ufficio scolastico regionale di Bologna mi ha chiamato nel 2014 per un'attività di formazione degli insegnanti (serviziomarconi.w.istruzioneer.it/digitale-scuola/) e nei conservatori di Rovigo, Padova, Bologna, dove sono stato invitato a tenere dei laboratori per il TFA abilitante di Pedagogia musicale. Il sito Aulodie è attualmente tra i casi di studio in una tesi di dottorato su tecnologia e didattica della muscia presso l'Università di Siviglia. Marino Senibaldi, conduttore di Fahrenheit a RAI Radio Tre, mi ha intervistato sull’uso del blog nella didattica: Fahrescuola: i primi esami, mentre Mario Piatti, curatore del sito www.musicheria.net, nonché formatore nell’ambito della didattica della musica, mi ha intervistato sul ruolo del blog nella didattica della musica sul sito musicheria.net. Barriers and Solutions (max. 1000 characters): 
Gli ostacoli sono stati innumerevoli e sono legati soprattutto alle difficili condizioni, per quanto riguarda l’apparato tecnologico, in cui versano molte scuole in Italia. Il progetto però parte dall’idea di utilizzare le risorse che (solitamente) sono già disponibili nella maggior parte degli istituti scolastici: connessione internet e videoproiettore, lasciando che siano gli studenti stessi a completare le attività a casa. In questo modo la carenza di dispositivi funzionanti a scuola è bilanciata dall’utilizzo dei dispositivi posseduti dalle famiglie. Vi è però il problema del digital-divide: alcuni alunni non possiedono un computer e/o connessione internet. In questi casi sono state trovate soluzioni ad hoc per non escludere nessuno nelle attività.
Future plans and wish list (max. 750 characters): 
L’ambizione maggiore sarebbe trasformare quest’esperienza in un modello operativo e in una piattaforma di scambio delle “buone pratiche” per gli insegnanti di musica italiani interessati all’innovazione nella didattica. Per far questo avrei bisogno di un’assistenza informatica dedicata da parte di un piccolo team di programmatori del web e di un maggior sostegno e visibilità da parte delle istituzioni.

This is an adventure of learning ,without any kind of time borders or space, where children will have the chance to interact through technology with children of any country. This has awaken their interest for learning culture, languages, knowing places, etc. In this project, Reading and writing are areas are will be reinforced as well as mutual respect, respect for intercultural issues, etc.

Project Summary (max. 2000 characters): 

This project was designed because of the students’ interest of interacting and acquiring new knowledge with friends from other countries as the ones the teacher has encountered being part of the Microsoft Forums.
Build alliances internationally so that students are participants of a new learning environment in the digital century, facing global challenges through culture exchanges of learning.

This project will be conducted during the technology class and some extracurricular time after class.

To make this project work, we had to start with some phases:
1. Building alliances with teachers from the PIL network ( Chile, Puerto Rico, U.S.A, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Malasya and Guatemala). This alliance was built thanks to the friendship and collaboration in 2011 in the forums were the leading professor participated.
2. Creating online groups on Facebook social network as an interactive space where everybody can interact among each other, including Colombian students. They can post their ideas and find issue resolutions. This will be monitored by the admin teacher.
3. Choosing topics of their interests. Students will state their ideas, and problems.
4. Preparing virtual sessions. Students previously research a topic and give ideas in the session.
5. Collaborative learning: students created collaborative learning in order to give solution to problems that were given through their topics of interests. This activity was developed through a video call.
6. Rubric for Evaluating Learning: Students will have the Cultural day where through a video call, they will show folklore about each country. Parents have previously helped with this activity. Also, the national flag of Colombia has been sent as a sign of friendship without borders. Currently, we have been having exchanges with El Salvador, Ecuador and Mexico.

Objectives and Innovative Aspects

Objectives:
- To generate meaningful learning ,through cultural exchanges, that allow students to have respect for the different uses of technology in everyday life. To create this objective, we diagnosed students’ needs and interests because we have been working with moral values to enhance a better co-existence despite all the social problems that they suffer like violence, family issues and home displacement.
- To generate collaborative work and school co-existence through interaction. In this objective, the collaborative work was taken as part of the methodology of the roles in the classroom as well as in the social network. It has been worked under the contributions of Vygotsky.
- To take advantage of IT in the areas of learning and enhancing writing and communicative skills. We follow UNESCO’s skills of the XXI century reflected on the Colombian curriculum.
- To stimulate creativity in students when developing narrative and descriptive projects. In this objective, we covered selfsteem, trust in one’s self, so that children can express their feeings through lecturing and conversing in a pacific way.

Results

Results - 450 students have been participating from primary since 2012. - Academic development has increased specially in the Spanish course. Writing and reading have also improved and now students communicate in a better way. -When building autonomy and implementing collaborative work, coexistence improves and that helped students respect the different society that we live on. Also, by knowing about other cultures, they were motivated to learn new languages like English and French through apps in their tablets or computers.

Around 120 students from different course of primary school through virtual platforms (Facebook, Schoology, skype) and classes.

What lessons can others learn from your project? (max. 1500 characters): 

It is really important to create and implement innovative projects. Projects that are student-centered. This will take students to have new and different experiences beyond the classroom. These kinds of experiences help students enhance their coexistence and value different people. Children can be capable of building new learning styles through technological collaborative ways.

Background Information

Barriers and Solutions (max. 1000 characters): 
Internet connectivity. Solution: students went to a cyber café or they visited relatives who have internet. The language, for example in Malasya, children were using the translator to write in English and the Children in Malasya to write in Spanish. The interaction was amazing.
Future plans and wish list (max. 750 characters): 
To continue making these alliances and try to connect not only primary but secondary area from our school as well. To promote values among the group like Respect, Self-confidence, Academic improvement, etc.
