Please explain the targets and the background of your project:

The very high level of unemployment among young graduates and young people in Ghana and many Sub Saharan African countries have result my organization implementing innovative ICT projects in the past nine years and as a result of societal needs this project have been designed geared towards giving employable ICT skills to targeted young graduates much needed employable ICT skills and also designed targeting the social problem of Cyber Fraud and Internet Crime also referred to as SAKAWA in Ghana also in many Sub Saharan African countries and it is worth mentioning that many fresh graduates and have acquired these important skills and whiles some have found employment quite a larger number are still unemployed and hence for over nine years my organization has been involved in a vigorous campaigns and projects. SAKAWA is an African term used to describe Cyber Fraud and Internet Crime which also combines the use of African spiritual powers to combining the use of modern Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tools and this is becoming the practice among young adults and fresh graduates in many African countries, this term has its roots strongly originating from Africa’s most populous nation which is Nigeria and fastly spreading across other West African countries including Ghana to other parts of Africa with the vast and majority of their victims being nationals of the developed countries with occasional victims being rich Africans. Negative influences of Cyber Fraud and Internet Crime “Sakawa” across Sub Sahara Africa is very high currently and is spreading quickly from Nigeria to Ghana and to other countries and the long term impacts of this trend not being checked could potentially have a devastating dent in the image of the our society and country as a whole. Whiles many young people involved in the practice are mostly using their acquired ICT skills there has suddenly emerged a practice of using “black magic” spiritual assistance to lure and convince victims to sending those monies and other material requests. This trend is rather discouraging the need and importance to looking for jobs by many young people not only in Ghana but too many with a promise

Come, e con quali mezzi cerca di raggiungere gli obiettivi prefissati:

Significantly and strategically the project which is Cyber Fraud and Internet Crime “SAKAWA” is meant to achieve four (4) main goals and objectives, these are as follows, 1. Firstly, to equipping young adults and youths with much needed employable ICT Skills needed and required by employers on the job market. 2. Our next goal and objective is to educate and equipping these young graduates to positively use their acquired ICT skills for the benefits of themselves and their communities including their families and their organizations. 3. Creating a public platform to encouraging public deliberations by the use of strategically selected Information Communication Technologies including the internet, LCD Project, Beans and to inform, educate and

Quali opportunità/problemi affronta:

1. It is addressing the challenge of unemployment among fresh graduates and young adults in Ghana and other African countries. 2. More importantly it is effectively equipping many fresh graduates with much needed ICT skills to making them ICT literate which we identify as most crucial in making them exposed to the employment market. 3. This project is effective dealing the social problem of Cyber Fraud and Internet Crime “SAKAWA” which is very rampant now and is fastly spreading among communities and major cities across Ghana. 4. This project is utilizing the opportunity through its technological logistics resource mobilization programme to using our outreach programme to educating a larger audience in addition to our target market on the risks facing our society and Ghana and the positives of the use of user friendly technology tools for ‘ICT for Public Deliberations’ in the challenge for our campaign on putting an end to Cyber Fraud and Internet Crime. 5. We have ideally balanced the issue of gender that our project implementation as we have identify that ICT illiteracy among females is especially high whiles the literacy rate among the males are much better and we are increased the participant quota for the females and other disadvantaged beneficiary groups. 6. Prospects of fostering partnerships and collaborations one this and other ICT projects and other future projects as we are committed to creating the platform for a medium, short-term and long term partnerships with organizations from Europe, Africa and Americas and also Asia and we look forward to interested organizations for partnerships and further collaborations. 7. We have greatly improved the gap between the media and the populations in our catchment’s communities and the cities we have implemented the project in as the media through our partnership with them have become key partners of the catchments communities and have step-up the campaign on publicizing the challenges we are addressing through our project.

Please explain what is unique or special in your project:

This project is very different from other related programmes by the government and other organizations trying to tackle the issue of cyber crime and internet fraud over the years, programmes which has the police as it main goal to tracking these youngsters have failed as most of these children are at times under age and they are eventually freed after arrest a and they become more hardened and more committed to the practice whiles only educational programmes which are meant to discourage them from the SAKAWA practice has also failed as they think they have no substantial benefit and they risk becoming targets. This project is educating targeted young people and fresh graduates who have been attracted to the illegal and fraudulent cyber trade called popularly in Ghana as “SAKAWA” by actively practicing unsuspecting adults and peers who are mostly young adults and also informing the young people who are less literate of the stronger benefits Information Communication Technologies is able to boost their jobs prospects by making them highly ICT literate and thereby coming highly skilled which are in high demand and we have moved a step further to training some of these SAKAWA boys and girls and have eventually attached them with companies and organizations which have eventually employed some of them permanently and other on short appointment with others also being attendants at commercial internet centers and the project have also trained some fresh graduates who used to be part of the underworld practice cyber fraud and internet crime referred to as SAKAWA.

Descrivete i criteri che usate per misurate i risultati raggiunti dal vostro progetto:

In 2006 until later parts of 2007 in Ghana, there was very limited or no national coverage and interest on the issue of Cyber Fraud and Internet Crime “SAKAWA” and the issue just remained an open secrete which did not generate much national interest and debate, hence fueling it to increase the rate of it occurrence. The project has worked with important national print media groups including news papers and radio fm stations and as a result we have been able to bring the issue to national gazettes, dailies and created national and regional awareness and as a result the Ministry of Education of Ghana plus other important institutions has become very much interested in the project and subject. We are also working to informing security agencies including the Ghana police service through its specialized unit involved in the training of police officers to uncovering cyber fraud and internet crimes and other information and communication technologies related issues and the project has also created the needed awareness to spiritualists assisting such young people and in Ghana now the issue of Cyber Fraud and Internet Crime is a national topic of major importance.

13. Informazioni aggiuntive

The story and issue of Cyber Fraud and Internet Crime used to be less heard and I less cared about such practices as I taught it was far aware from me as far as such practices are concerned but however , some of the organizations we have been working with was victimized and also a leader of our organization was also nearly fallen to the practice and we decided to carry a study on the subject and it was very shocking the kind of revelations that came out of our study that we decided to solicit for support to commencing and designing this project. Partnerships and collaborations by non governmental organizations, media houses, local government agencies, educational institutions and commercial internet centers have made this project a success. It is also very important to mention the permanent team of dedicated and committed professionals behind the success of the project, they are in the persons of Mr. Albert Yeboah Obeng, Ms. Debora Dodoo, Mr. Michael Asa, Michael K. Dagba and Mr. Clive Adjei Kunadu and Mr. Roderick Manu Amoah and the Gods Harvest Foundation, Tema-Ghana. Commissions on items sold by the Foresight Generation Club have been key in the funding of this projects and some of the items which have earned the organization such funds includes Pen drives, laptop computers, mobile phones and digital cameras which have also be used widely by the project. We have also received a regular logistic support by the Gods Harvest Foundation and the Abibiman Foundation all organizations based in Tema , Ghana with which the project have strong formal collaborative status with these and also with other smaller organizations.

1. The initial challenge for the project was the initial logistics and materials needed to start the project and these needed logistics includes computers, laptops, pen drives , digital cameras and other important items like generators as electricity supply is very irregular and we have to regularly resort to the use of generator which we hire and pay for it use. 2. Lack of regular funds for the project is also a great challenge and we are working on this to ensure the regular flow of funds for the project. 3. Advertising partners for the project initially was our major challenge but gradually we have been able to break this barer. 4. Another initial challenge was fostering the needed stakeholder partnerships needed for the project and we have been able to surmount this challenge as we now have these strategic partners actively involved in the project.

1. With our formal partnerships with selected commercial sales outlets of selected ICT appliances we are presently earning some commissions on the items we sell during the implementation of the project and these earnings though small but very useful in funding the project and we are working to expanding such sales partnerships to improve our funding generation nets. 2. Our strategic alliances with major community stakeholders and the media have created the needed publicity on our project which has also advertised our project to individuals and other collaborating small groups to support our work. 3. We have found the importance and benefits of partnerships and we are committed and determined to widening these partnerships and collaborations further.

Future plans and wish list:

We are committed to ensuring that more young adults and fresh graduates benefits from project to reducing the social challenge of Cyber Fraud and Internet Crime whiles also decreasing the ICT illiteracy among fresh graduate and promising enterprising youths in Ghana and other collaborating Sub Saharan African communities and societies. The project has very high prospects of replication with a very reputable scale of sustainability as a result we are very much interested in attracting organizations and groups dealing basic ICT and technology items like Pen drives, laptops, mobile phones, LCD Projectors, other storage devises and computers and related gadgets. Project also aims to achieve sustainability by the establish of a commercial internet facility which would operate basic technology related services for commercial purposes with the ultimate goal and aim of raising adequate funds for the project to achieving a good and sustainable positive growth of the programme. We need computers be it used ones or new ones, we also need storage devices, vedio cameras, digital cameras,
