School without frontiers to support students autonomy and improve better pedagogical strategies
We are a private school near Lisbon with proximally 1000 students from 3 to 18 years old. This project begins in 2007 with teacher’s formation to improve educational technologies and pedagogical skills. We begin to use permanent technology in our classrooms with computers, presentations, interactive boards, multimedia pedagogical contents, production off our multimedia materials and pedagogical use of a e-learning platform. Our students from 10 years old already started in this project, in next year students from 7 years old will start use to. With this project we want to improve students autonomy and more quality in their studies, guided and oriented from our teachers, in constant contact and interact. Using the Dokeos platform our teachers are using the doubts chat, thematic forums, interactive exercises, learning sequences, documents repository, guided workgroups,… We felt our students must work warder after classes and the best way was guide them form their own teachers and no others. Actually we are satisfied with the positive results. We have more cooperative work, more collaborative work, more group work, more communication between students and their teachers and a little better academic results. Our starting point was teachers skills to form autonomous teachers with multimedia resources. We have a internal formation department always available and working on that concern.
We had good teachers but with oldest pedagogical methodologies. We felt that we need to improve motivation in our students and get into their world. So we start in teachers graduation on technologies to improve theirs skills and during the year we had frequent meetings to discuss pedagogical materials, pedagogical methodology and feedback the results. We had near 1000 students and the earlier classrooms, off this project at the moment, are trying ward to improve their skills to get join in project next year with their students
We felt that we have more motivated students and teachers that interact more often with each other in pedagogical methodologies. We have more interactive classes and more autonomous students. We are starting to use more and more our own materials, produced by our teachers in each department
there are some schools using the elearning platform and trying to use as pedagogical recourse, but we are the only school concerned with teachers graduation at this level to improve their skills and get better practices.
