Global Youth Media

Global Youth Media uses digital media to engage young people in becoming positive agents for social change as well as active and productive members of their communities.

1. Sommario progetto
Sommario:

Global Youth Media uses digital media to engage young people in becoming positive agents for social change through the creation of socially conscious media. The program is open to all young, giving participants the opportunity to share information, exchange ideas and resources with their counterparts from diverse cultural, educational, social, religious and political backgrounds around the world.
Global Youth Media is centered around a high end, high quality interactive edutainment site website that will host an on-line radio station, videos, podcasts and articles on a wide range of issues including education, career, health, gender in development as well as feature interviews with community leaders and other members of the community. Participants will also be encouraged to independently record, edit and submit digital media to the site. 9. Obiettivi ed elementi di innovazione
Please explain the targets and the background of your project:

The project beneficiaries are young people up to 18 years of age from poor disadvantaged and thus under served communities. However Global Youth Media was designed to not serve only one demographic or facilitate east to west connections but north south as well. Allowing students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to connect, collaborate and effectuate change in their communities and around the world.

Come, e con quali mezzi cerca di raggiungere gli obiettivi prefissati:

Global Youth Media tries to accomplish a number of things.
1. Improve digital media skills among participants.
2. Provide young people with the opportunity to effectuate positive social change.
3. Improve cultural understanding between young people from around the world
4. Provide mentoring support to young people
5. Foster a sense of duty and responsibility among young people.

We try to achieve this by providing young people with a platform through which they can connect and share ideas. During the course of the program, participants are encouraged to use the skills they acquire to raise awareness about a social justice issue allowing them to be actively involved in creating solutions to some of our most challenging issues. The program also provides mentoring support to young people by linking them to industry professionals.

Quali opportunità/problemi affronta:

Among the problems the project addresses are the lack of an inclusive platform through which Zambia's young people can connect, interact and engage on social justice issues and thus providing them with an avenue though which they can contribute and make their voices heard.
Limited opportunities for skills training and interaction with industry professionals to help improve job skills and employability.
The lack of programming that facilitates mentoring of students

Please explain what is unique or special in your project:

Zambian youths now have a chance to connect and interact with their counterparts around the world improving knowledge and understanding among students from different educational and cultural backgrounds. Perhaps more significant is that students are able to identify developmental challenges in their communities and create relevant solutions. Already the project is fostering a sense of responsibility among students and we are excited about the long term prospects.

10. Risultati
Describe the results of your project as per today:

So far the project has partnered 9 schools from 3 continents. In the past year two of the schools have launched a highly effective Malaria campaign designed to raise awareness about Malaria with the emphasis being placed on prevention and cure. The campaign included a public service announcement which can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNoI-r4US7Y
They also redesigned the mosquito net to make it more user friendly for babies in hospitals. They named their new creation the spring or coil net as it is framed around a spring so that the net does not have to hang from an elevation to use it.
As a result we are seeing more students wanting to be involved with the project so they can be part of something new, different and relevant.
We are also seeing students having an improved sense of belonging in the community as well as exhibit a sense of understanding for people from other cultural backgrounds.

In che misura risponde ai bisogni degli utenti:

The project directly gives participants an avenue through which to actively participate and creatively engage. This fosters a sense of belonging and self worth among young people. It gives them reason to believe their opinions and contributions matter.
What can be more important than making a child feel counted?

Quanti utenti interagiscono con il progetto mensilmente e in quale modo:

We currently have an estimated 3500 students interacting through an exclusive social networking site hosted by Ning. With funding we hope to build to build a platform from the ground up. This would be a highly interactive platform with much of the functionality that is lacking on the current one to give users a more fulfilling experience. In addition to email, they also use blogs, chat and skype to communicate among individual students and schools.

Descrivete in quale modo il progetto contribuisce a migliorare l'educazione e la formazione dei giovani:

In Zambia among participating schools, the project has broadened the scope of educational programming. Providing both teachers and students with a unique opportunity to contribute not just to education but development as well. By linking social justice and community service the project has created a new avenue for participation that has direct consequences on local development. It also links education to development in a way that it has not been done befre especially by young people.

Descrivete in quale modo il progetto ha ottimizzato la partecipazione di professionisti, ragazzi, giovani o altri soggetti:

The project is based around mentoring and networking and collaboration. Through the mentoring aspect of the project professionals in the community are able to positively influence participants by providing motivation, encouragement and support to young people and thus share and impart their skills to the next generation. Helping to raise confident stewards.
Children and youth have the chance to connect with each other and other young people from around the world improving their knowledge and understanding of the world they live in. They are also able to acquire new skills through training and interaction with professionals improving their chances for employment.
Through the project, young people get to contribute to community development by being involved in community projects that include but are not limited to improving access to clean drinking water, the environment, infectious disease, literacy and the digital divide by creating projects that address these issues.

Descrivete in quale modo il progetto favorisce l'uso delle nuove tecnologie da parte di professionisti, ragazzi e giovani per lo sviluppo culturale e didattico:

By its very nature this is an ICT based project. Communication among participants is entirely though the internet using email and even skype. Additionally, students work digital media through out the entire course of the project. Engaging professionals in the mentoring of participants thereby giving students the unique opportunity to interact and learn from industry professionals. Young people get to make positive contributions to their communities and communities around the world. By interacting with other young people from around the world, students gain valuable insights into life in other cultures fostering a sense of understanding and respect among young people from different cultures.

Descrivete i criteri che usate per misurate i risultati raggiunti dal vostro progetto:

The program's results must be demonstrated, documented, and shared. Therefore management will make deliberate efforts in linking programs to local, community concerns and assess, communicate, and promote the approaches and techniques to be learned and implemented. As a first step to assessing programs, a unified monitoring and evaluation system will be developed – allowing management to chart and report progress and, just as important, serve as a management tool.

Metrics will be used to assess relevance, effectiveness, scalability, and financial
and sustainability. The metrics will be based on the needs of each participating school.

Overall program success will be measured by:

• Number of young people involved in the project annually
• Number of schools participating in the program per year
• Number of financial and media organizations as well as institutions of higher learning participating in the mentoring program
• Number of quality social campaigns created yearly (Set target of 2)
• Increase in the number of community members serving as volunteer trainers each year.

Success in terms of individual site users will be measured by;
• Number of visitors to site monthly and annually,
• Number of active members by thematic categories,
• Number of active members by school

Success in terms of member activity will be measured by
• Most accessed features
• Most viewed videos
• Most requested topics
• Top five features based on time spent on activity, and frequency of use.
• Top five pod casts
• Top five articles
• Top five outside accessed resources

System activity metrics will be measured by:
• Number of documents stored and added,
• Number of web links stored and added
• Number of collaboration connections
• Number of community posts

User satisfaction/needs will also be measured by asking users to provide feedback through integrated site features. Which will be used for program design, implementation and evaluation.

An evaluation will be conducted to help ensure quality as well as make sure implementation is proceeding accordingly. At the end of the year, a goal evaluation will be undertaken to determine whether the goals the program had set out to achieve have been achieved or not, as well as provide indicators on what adjustments if any need to be made to the program design and implementation to help meet goals and benchmarks.

Che cosa possono imparare altri soggetti dal vostro progetto:

We have learned we live in an increasingly global community and thus our borders are no longer solely defined by city, state or national boundaries. Instead they reach far beyond and connect people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. As the global community expands, we can longer rely on traditional means to communicate and connect but instead must capitalize on the unprecedented growth of Information Communication Technologies to address the challenging issues of our time.
Among other things, we have learned and continue to learn that children have a lot to day about the local and global challenges we all face. And that when given the opportunity, the tools and resources, they have the ability to create long lasting solutions to developmental challenges. We have learned young people have a lot to contribute and that we have a duty and responsibility to ensure we provide them with all the support they need in order for them to be active and productive members of society. It is our only hope for a descent future.

13. Informazioni aggiuntive
Background:

Global Youth Media was conceived out of ProjectEDUCATE's Circle of Friends. A program that was designed to connect Zambian schools with their counterparts around the world. With the donation of computer equipment to some of our partner schools, it was clear we needed to create practical uses for the equipment in order for them to be an effective educational and developmental resource. Understanding the absolute need for networking and collaboration, we created linkages between Zambian schools and their counterparts. The initial idea was simply to connect schools but as they linkages developed, it became apparent we had a unique opportunity to effectuate change in a way it had not been before in these communities. We started asking what if these students could not only communicate but work together over distances? What experiences would they bring to an issue? Any issue. But we did not want it to be just any issue. We wanted it to be something that the students could from different background could be excited about and collectively and collaboratively work to address? And so they were asked to choose a socioeconomic issue to address and the result was the Malaria campaign cited elsewhere in this proposal. We knew we had come up with something unique and so we designed an entire program around the school partnerships and called it Global Youth Media.

Ostacoli:

The lack of funding has been the main barrier to implementation. We have so far created the necessary partnerships with schools and media organizations to support implementation. Without the necessary funding, it will be impossible to effectively design and successfully implement the project.

Soluzioni:

We launched a proactive fundraising campaign that centered around partner schools to raise the funds needed for implementation. We also asked businesses to support the project by donating digital equipment for the project.

Future plans and wish list:

As we look to the future, we hope to accomplish a number of things including hiring a program coordinator to specifically focus on the program design and implementation. This will focus time and resources on Global Youth Media as opposed to splitting it between three other initiatives.
We will then move to secure funding for the proposed Global Youth Media portal.
We would also like to see more schools from around the world participate.
Our wish list list includes digital media equipment being computers and cameras.

Road Safety around the world

The road safety project encourages students at Ein Ganim and around the world to consider the dangers of road safety and to learn to take proper precautions in order to save their lives.

1. Sommario progetto
Sommario:

The unit includes pictures of different schools and places from around the world involved in road safety. It includes student resources with worksheets, on line games, games that can be downloaded for class use, stories, poems, and animations. There is a section with student work from around the world where educators and students are sharing materials for everyone to share and from which they can learn. For the teachers there is a resource page with ideas on how to use the unit and materials for teaching in the classroom. Ein Ganim School has also been teaching road safety yearly as a part of the curriculum in every class in our school. Our staff believes in educating the children about saving lives and being careful on the roads to and from school, they will become aware and accidents will be prevented. A very special part of our site includes a road safety posty through which children can exchange emails and send cards safely and securely. The children from Ein Ganim School designed these postcards for their friends around the world. There is a game section, a credit section to all of the schools who have contributed to our unit and a contact section for future schools that will join us in the future. The idea was started and implemented by Marsha Goren. There is a serious problem in road safety and road accidents in Israel, I thought by inviting our friends from around the world to join us children would be motivated to learn and share their information together.

9. Obiettivi ed elementi di innovazione
Please explain the targets and the background of your project:

I originally created and developed a curriculum about road safety, which is now part of the English curriculum in Israel. For me it was an opportunity to rebuild an existing curriculum and improve it with technology.. I also decided to expand my project by using the new road safety unit.. I have now built a learning unit which I hope will the save lives of Israeli citizens and our partners from around the world. Even if one life is saved, then we have served an important purpose.

The safety unit inspires students to take a deeper look at what causes road accidents. Based on their own research, and comparing road safety in other countries children learn and become aware of the dangers in our streets. Teams present their proposals to classmates and their colleagues from around the world.
Saving lives is the most important aspect of our project and children need to be educated so they may become better citizens in the future.

Come, e con quali mezzi cerca di raggiungere gli obiettivi prefissati:

It brings together a group of educators and children from around the world who are studying a subject which can save lives. This unit is very important and can be beneficial in many ways when educating children about road safety. By using technology children can study in many different ways with an international audience.

Quali opportunità/problemi affronta:

It addresses the problems of road safety and accidents which happen daily all over the world. It brings a solution to _the daily problems of being careful on the roads . Many young children have to cross in the streets on their way to school. They can also compare ideas from other countries and implement these ideas in their studies. Road safety is a crucial subject as it is life threatening and children need to be educated in as many ways possible so they will be accustomed to the dangers in the roads

Please explain what is unique or special in your project:

The Internet has the power to bring everyone together and share the materials. The unit offers ideas to educators including a workbook which can be downloaded for teaching as well as student resources and games. The unit has more than twenty schools from around the world who have collaborated and shared their knowledge in such a unique way. It is unique as the unit can be used in any classroom in the world and can be translated into any language for teaching.
There is also a posty section where children have designed post cards about road safety and can send each other messages throughout the project.

10. Risultati
Describe the results of your project as per today:

As of today we have started our unit in Sept. 2008 and more than twenty schools have taken part in the unit. Teachers have written to thank me for the book of worksheets that can be used in many classes and different age groups. This project can easily be done at any school anywhere.

In che misura risponde ai bisogni degli utenti:

It allows educators and children to work together in global collaboration about such a life threatening problem. Since the site offers learning materials and many ideas it can be adapted in any classroom anywhere. Children enjoy sharing knowledge and this can be seen by the great materials that are in the unit.

Globaldreamers -Dream a dream with Ein Ganim

"GlobalDreamers is a universal communication tool and serves as a common reference point to create cultural bridges amongst different countries and promote communication and exchanges between teachers

1. Sommario progetto
Sommario:

When the computers first arrived at my schools most of the teachers (me included) panicked! I had no idea how I was going to cope with that little box and screen that now was given an "honorable section" at my school in the lab. Needless to say I was apprehensive and puzzled. Change is never easy for anyone.Fully aware my 6th graders are part of the computer generation; my thoughts led me to ask the class to recommend one of their classmates to spearhead our computer project. Surprisingly, they all recommended a boy named Avishai, so I decided to ask for his assistance. I suggested that I teach him extra hours after school in order to improve his English. In return he would teach me computer skills. He immediately agreed and to my delight Avishai received a 95 on his next English test! (I didn't learn as quickly about technology!)
The novelty of remaining after school was beginning to wear thin for both of us I and asked him if he were willing to give up the extra hours of English since he had improved so much and I was so proud of his accomplishments. I said, "Maybe you don't need the English lessons anymore." He said," I don't need the English lessons but you still need the computer lessons. You have not yet received a 95! After Avishai's instructions and then taking several courses, I realized I needed to advance my students and myself towards the world of tomorrow, and not educate them for a world that no longer existed.
World of Projects
Five years ago I was looking for ways to interest my children in their English studies. After many courses and difficult work, I realized the value of the Internet as a way of spreading an educational message around the world. The process has led me to become a technology innovator and global leader in online collaborative learning projects. These projects now include thousands of children from more than 37 countries worldwide.
My introduction to collaborative projects was through the "friends and flags" project in Israel. I was now ready to begin my own collaborative projects and began developing "Dream a dream with Ein Ganim" (now called Global Dreamers).
"Global Dreamers" (http://www.globaldreamers.org/) prompts students at Ein Ganim and from around the world to join in a multicultural project that captures students' thinking in a visual way. The "Share" section is full of information about many countries, cultures, schools, etc. There are also many group projects that participants can choose to join as their schedules allow.
"Global Dreamers" inspires children to take a deeper look at the world by exploring, exchanging ideas, and using research tools. It supports a positive learning environment and a shared learning experience. By inviting the participation of children from around the globe, it supports the fight against the Digital Divide. In addition, it aims to encourage cross-cultural communication and to promote global understanding, while helping children to expand their knowledge and supporting the innovative use of new technologies in education. Above all, it attempts to create a more tolerant individual in a multicultural society. We believe that by understanding and learning about others, children can face a better world.
As an EFL teacher it was my wish to combine English teaching along with technology. I wanted my students to experience a social, cultural and personal learning experience. This project utilizes Internet technologies for genuine learning of the English language by activating and motivating children with various online activities. In addition to the utilization of technologies, studying English will also assist different cultures in participating with greater understanding in the challenge of globalization.
The project's activities include a web quest about Israel and our 'dreamers' web site, writing and story corners, emails, a calendar, a news corner, an active discussion board and virtual games. The project integrates technology in the classroom and children become active creative learners. It increases their curiosity, their interests and as a result they are more committed to the authentic learning process. There are many group projects that teachers can choose to join and an art gallery where students can send in their own work.
As a result of all the following, the number of participants grows from month to month. Over 75 schools and home-schooled families from around the world take part in our activities. Teachers, parents and children from around the world have joined in the dynamic GlobalDreamers project.
Since the project demands organized communication, I send emails to all the educators involved. This includes classes from kindergartens, elementary schools, home schooled, junior high and high schools. Once a week I notify them of the different activities that are offered on the web site so they can participate in our online activities. Our meeting place is of course the website.

When an educator contacts me, I first send pictures of all the children in the project from my 4th 5th and 6th grade classes. I also include background information about our school, city and of our country. The teachers involved use these materials to begin teaching about us and of course about Israel. Teachers have learned new and exciting ways of integrating various forms of technology into their curriculum. The feedback I receive has been encouraging.

Curriculum Objectives, Standards and Goals
(Taken from the English teachers' web site in Israel:
http://www.etni.org.il/By the Ministry of Education in Israel- English Inspectorate)
Teaching technology to children in the classroom answers and reinforces all of the demands of the new curriculum according to the Ministry of Education in Israel. Children learn how to interact and obtain information as well as to present information in an organized manner. They also improve oral and written skills. Above all they learn to appreciate other cultures and hopefully accept different people from around the world.
The goal of this new curriculum is to set standards for four domains of English Language learning: social interaction; access to information; presentation; and appreciation of literature and culture, and language. According to this curriculum, by the end of twelfth grade, pupils should be able to:
• interact effectively in a variety of situations
• obtain and make use of information from a variety of sources and media
• present information in an organized manner
• appreciate literature and other cultures and the nature of language
• provide opportunities for peer interaction
• incorporate task-based activities
• allow pupils to make choices
• encourage pupils to use English outside the classroom
• stimulate pupils to broaden their horizons through the use of English.
Social Content of the project
*Project encourages active individual and group learning.
*Group learning encourages decision making as well as learning from others and contributing to the well- being of the class.
*Children compare and analyze Israeli culture along with other children in the world.
*Children learn cultural appreciation and a shared learning experience.
*Use educational technology to communicate/ collaborate with students and teachers from around the world.

Come, e con quali mezzi cerca di raggiungere gli obiettivi prefissati:

Vision – objectives – goals:
1) TO ENCOURAGE AND INSPIRE STUDENT INVOLVEMENT WHICH STRENGTHENS THE CURRICULUM AND ALLOWS LEARNERS TO BECOME ACTIVE IN THE PROCESS AND IN REAL LIFE EXCHANGES. 2) TO ENGAGE IN AN EFFECTIVE GLOBAL COLLABORATION AMONGST YOUTH, AUTHENTIC LANGUAGE USE, AND THE PROMOTION OF LEARNING TOWARDS POSTIVE CULTURAL EXCHANGES 3) TO EDUATE AND TRAIN CHILDEN TO PRACTICE COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND PROVIDE ABUNDANT LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES IN AN ONLINE ENVIRONMENT 4) TO HAVE STUDENTS USE THEIR ENGLISH FOR AUTHENTIC COMMUNICATIONS WITH A GLOBAL AUDIENCE OF PEERS. PARTNERS RECEIVE UPDATES ABOUT THE CURRENT PROJECTS. THE WEBSITE, WHICH IS A MEETING PLACE FOR ALL, ALLOWS STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS TO TAKE PART IN VARIED ACTIVITIES, EXCHANGE IDEAS, AND PROMOTES GLOBAL COLLABORATION. BY SENDING GIFTS AND PACKAGES TO EACH OTHEER WE STRENGTHEN THE RELATIONSHIP AMONG ALL. THE PROJECT IS YEARLY; TEACHERS COMMIT TO PARTICIPATE ACTIVELY. THE MILESTONE OF GLOBALDREAMERS IS THAT MANY EDUCATORS HAVE BEEN DREAMING WITH US FOR 3 OR 4 YEARS. THIS IS NO SMALL ACCOMPLISHMENT AS THE CHILDREN AND I WORK WITH MINIMAL FUNDS AND LITTLE TECHNOLOGY. OUR DETERMINATION AND HARD WORK ARE THE FORCES BEHIND GLOBALDREAMERS AND ITS VISION: TO ENCOURAGE PEACE AMONG ALL NATIONS AND TO EDUCATE A MORE TOLERANT AND UNDERSTANDING INDIVIDUAL.

Quali opportunità/problemi affronta:

THE PROJECT ENCOURAGES GLOBAL AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE AMONG ALL WHO REGISTER. WHEN AN EDUCATOR OR SCHOOL REGISTERS I THEN SEND MATERIALS TO THE TEACHER. FIRST OF ALL, PICTURES OF THE CHILDREN FROM THE CLASSES IN MY PROJECT AND OF COURSE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SCHOOL, OUR CITY AND OUR COUNTRY. SINCE THE PROJECT ANSWERS TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CURRICULUM, CHILDREN ARE THE CENTER OF ATTENTION AND THE LEARNING IS ACTIVE. THE WEBSITE WHICH IS A MEETING PLACE FOR ALL, ALLOWS CHILDREN AND EDUCATORS TO TAKE PART IN VARIED ACTIVITIES, EXCHANGE IDEAS, AND ALLOW FOR GLOBALCOMMUNICTION. CHILDREN ARE ENRICHED BY THE CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND THE CHILDREN HAVE CREATED A COMMUNITY FOR VISITORS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. CHILDREN ALSO SEND EACH OTHER EMAILS AND GIFTS. IN ADDITION, WE SEND A MOVIE IN A CD FORMAT FOR EACH AND EVERY SCHOOL.

Please explain what is unique or special in your project:

This project has been up and running since 2002 and that is evidence of the hard work and determination of our goal in producing friendships in global collaboration as well as the authentic learning process. ________________________________________________________________________ DREAM A DREAM IS A VERY SPECIAL PROJECT. FIRST OF ALL IT HELPS TO BUILD CULTURAL BRIDGES AMONG THE DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. IT ALSO BUILDS AND UNITES RELATIONSHIPS AMONG THE TEACHERS, CHILDREN, AND EVEN THEIR PARENTS. THE UNIQUE SHARE SECTION ON THE SITE OFFERS A TREMEDOUS AMOUNT OF WONDERFUL MATERIALS AND GIVES CHILDREN THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT EACH OTHER IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. WHETHER THEY ARE ENCOURAGING STUDENTS FROM KENYA WHO’S PARENTS HAVE DIED OF AIDS, OR CHEERING WITH THOSE STUDENTS AS WELL AS THE WELL WAS INSTALLED AT THEIR SCHOOL SAVING THEM THE DAILY TRIP TO THE RIVER TO CARRY WATER, THEY HAVE SHARED IN THEIR LIVES. WHEN THEY ASK QUESTIONS OF THEIR PARTNERS FROM CROATIA WHO VISITED THE CONCENTRATION CAMPS IN POLAND, BOTH SETS OF STUDENTS HAVE THOUGHT MORE DEEPLY ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST. WHEN THEY ASK OTHERS STUDENTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD FOR THEIR THOUGHTS ON VIOLENCE AND BULLYING, THEY REALLY WANT TO KNOW AND WANT TO SHARE THEIR IDEAS FOR SOLVING THESE PROBLEMS.

Describe the results of your project as per today:

THE RESULTS ARE MEASUED BY THE THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN WHO COME ON THE SITE AND ARE ACTIVE ON OUR DREAMY DISCUSSION BOARD. EDUCATORS ARE ALSO ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS IN THE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES THAT GLOBAL DREAMERS OFFERS. SUCH ACTIVITIES INCLUDE JOINT LEARNING UNITS ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST, SPRING, WINTER, FAVORITE PLACES AND A PET GALLERY. THE GLOBAL COLLABORATION UNITES A GROUP OF DEDICATED EDUCATORS FROM AROUND THE WORLD.

In che misura risponde ai bisogni degli utenti:

CHILDREN AND EDUCATORS ARE PLEASED AS THE RESULTS ARE PUT ON THE WEBSITE FOR IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK. IN THE FREQUENT WEEKLY EMAILS I SEND TO THE EDUCATORS THERE IS MENTION OF THE GREAT WORK EVERYONE IS DOING AND CONTRIBUTING FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL. CHILDREN TAKE PRIDE IN WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND ACT AS AMBASSADORS FOR THEIR SCHOOLS AND THEIR COUNTRIES. THEY IMPROVE THEIR READING AND WRITING SKILLS AS WELL AS THEIR TECHNOLOGY SKILLS.

Quanti utenti interagiscono con il progetto mensilmente e in quale modo:

DREAM A DREAM PARTICIPANTS TAKE PART IN THE ONLINE ACTIVITIES SUCH AS THE DISCUSSION BOARD, THE WEBQUEST, PETACH TIKVA LEARNING UNIT ABOUT OUR TOWN, THEY CONTRIBUTE MATERIALS TO THE PHOTO GALLERY AS WELL AS SHARE. I BELIEVE THAT CLOSE TO 3,000 CHILDREN NOW VISIT AND TAKE PART IN OUR PROJECT.
The children take part in our group projects which can be seen in our special share section. Every project we invite educators to join in there are no less than 20 to 25 schools from around the world. This is a huge accomplishment which demands hard work and determination together with compassion.

Descrivete in quale modo il progetto contribuisce a migliorare l'educazione e la formazione dei giovani:

EFL TEACHERS TELL US HOW IT HAS MOTIVATED STUDENTS TO CHECK, CORRECT, AND TRY TO LEARN MORE SO THAT THEY WILL LOOK GOOD WHEN THEY POST ON THE BULLETIN BOARD. MY OWN STUDENTS HAVE INCREASED IN THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH, AND SCORE AT THE TOP IN OUR STATE TESTS. I CREDIT THEIR PARICIPATION IN GLOBAL DREAMERS FOR THIS. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT OUR WORK HERE HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE IN EFL INSTRUCTION IN MANY COUNTRIES.

Descrivete in quale modo il progetto ha ottimizzato la partecipazione di professionisti, ragazzi, giovani o altri soggetti:

THOUGH THERE IS MUCH THOUGHT BEHIND WHAT IS OFFERED IN GLOBAL DREAMERS, IT APPEARS TO BE A NON-THREATINING, EASY PROJECT IN WHICH TO PARTICIPATE. THIS IS DONE PURPOSELY, TO ENCOURAGE THE FIRST TIME PARTICIPANT TO STEP IN. ONCE THERE, THEY SEE HOW GREAT THEIR LITTLE PART LOOKS, AND DO MORE. SUGGESTIONS MADE BY STUDENTS ARE TAKEN AS SERIOUSLY AS THOSE MADE BY THEIR TEACHERS.

Descrivete in quale modo il progetto favorisce l'uso delle nuove tecnologie da parte di professionisti, ragazzi e giovani per lo sviluppo culturale e didattico:

SINCE THE PROJECT REQUIRES THE USE OF THE INTERNET AND EMAIL, PARTICIPANTS AT THE VERY LEAST MUST BECOME CONFIDENT IN THIS USE. THEN MANY MOVE ON TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, ANIMATION, PRESENTATION BUILDING, AND MORE AS CAN BE SEEN ON THE SITE.

Globaldreamers- Peace project

A team project that engages children‘s creativity in exploration of peace.

1. Sommario progetto
Sommario:

The Dream a dream project was developed by Mrs. Marsha Goren of Ein Ganim School Israel in 2001 and first met the Internet in 2002. The idea started as a vehicle to encourage children and educators to share in a learning environment that would lead to global communication and tolerance. Dream a dream at Ein Ganim prompts students at Ein Ganim and around the world to join in multicultural projects that capture student’s thinking in a visual way. It inspires children to take a deeper look at the world by exploring, exchanging ideas and using research tools, supporting a positive learning environment and a shared learning experience. Because of the war between Israel and the Palestinians which began in December 2008, we decided to invite schools to join in our peace project. The children felt the need to express their feelings on the subject together with many of our partners around the world. Our peace project aims to encourage cross cultural communication and promote global understanding, while helping children to expand their knowledge in technology, support the use of new educational technologies. The educational value of teaching about peace was essential and the results of the work we received from our partners is indeed heartwarming. More than 25 schools from around the world have taken part in this project as of today.

Please explain the targets and the background of your project:

1. To encourage and inspire student involvement which strengthens the curriculum and allows learners to become active in the process and in real life exchanges. 2. To engage in an effective global collaboration amongst youth, authentic language use, and the promotion of learning towards positive cultural exchanges 3. To educate and train children to practice communication skills and provide abundant learning opportunities in an online environment 4. To have students use their English for authentic communications with a global audience of peers. Partners receive updates about the current projects. The website, which is a meeting place for all, allows students and educators to take part in varied activities, exchange ideas, and promote global collaboration. And finally the Globaldreamers peace project and its vision is to encourage peace among all nations and to educate a more tolerant and understanding individual.

Come, e con quali mezzi cerca di raggiungere gli obiettivi prefissati:

The project encourages global and cultural exchange among all who register. The project answers to the requirement of the curriculum, children are the center of attention and the learning is active. This projects allows children an educators to take part in this important and meaningful project, exchange ideas about peace and allow for global communication.
We were even given the opportunity to take part live on a radio program in the United States where children from the USA asked their colleagues in Israel about the war and they could express their opinions about the war and hope for future peace.

Quali opportunità/problemi affronta:

The peace project encourages children to work in creative ways of resolving conflicts and problems. Our dream is to create a global net work of schools working together in harmony and thinking of varied ways to encourage future peace. It is with each of us that peace can begin. There are many conflicts in the world. It is with understanding that the process of peace begins; the valuing of each person; the respect for cultures that are different from our own; the willingness to share our culture while appreciating those that are different.

Please explain what is unique or special in your project:

The peace project is a very special project. First of all it helps to build cultural bridges among different countries. It also builds and unites relationships among the teachers, children and even their parents. When they ask other students from around the world for their thoughts on violence and peace, they really want to know and to share their ideas for solving these problems.
Another unique aspect is the fact that some of our partners shared their ideas on peace in their own languages. In addition, there are resources for the educators and ideas for teaching as well as the variety of materials we received from our friends around the world.

Describe the results of your project as per today:

The results are measured by the many schools and children who have joined us in our work for many years now. The work has received international and national recognition throughout the years due to the hard work and determination of our hard work

In che misura risponde ai bisogni degli utenti:

Children and educators are pleased as the results are put on the website for immediate feedback. In the frequent weekly emails I sent to the educators there is mention of the great work everyone is doing and contributing for the benefit of all. Children take pride in what they are doing and act as ambassadors for their schools and countries in promoting peace.

Quanti utenti interagiscono con il progetto mensilmente e in quale modo:

Dream participants take part in the online activities and contribute materials to the peace project such as artwork, drawings, stories, poems, graphic work and writings. This encourages creative skills as well as high thinking skills when having to share ideas on such a serious subject like peace. I believe between three to five thousand children take part in various activities.

Descrivete in quale modo il progetto contribuisce a migliorare l'educazione e la formazione dei giovani:

It has improved English and technology skills as well as creativity skills. Many children in our project have learned to use graphic programs such as Photoshop, animation programs such as Frames and Flash as well as html skills. These are skills that have led the children to work in global collaboration thus encouraging the future workforce around the world.

Descrivete in quale modo il progetto ha ottimizzato la partecipazione di professionisti, ragazzi, giovani o altri soggetti:

Though there is much thought behind the peace project it is easy to participate in as this is done purposely to encourage people to step in. Once they see how great their part looks they do more. Suggestions made by students are taken as seriously as those made by their teachers.

Descrivete in quale modo il progetto favorisce l'uso delle nuove tecnologie da parte di professionisti, ragazzi e giovani per lo sviluppo culturale e didattico:

Since the project requires use of the Internet and email, participants at the very least must become confident in this use. Then many move on to digital photography, animation, presentation building and more as can be seen on the site.

Descrivete i criteri che usate per misurate i risultati raggiunti dal vostro progetto:
