| IEARN SÉNÉGAL DIGITAL EXCHANGE PROJECT WILL BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO TRAIN TEACHERS, STUDENTS, YOUTH AND FEMALE IN ASSOCIATION IN OUR COMMUNITIES TO HOW TO USE INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES TO IMPROVE SKILLS, MAKE FRIENDS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, SUPPORT FEMALE INITIATIVES AND CREATE NEW JOB FOR YOUTH. | |

| THIS PROJECT IDEA IS BORN AFTER A LONG EXPERIENCE OF TRAINING THAT I HAVE WITH MANY NGÒS, PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS AND ASSOCIATION. I HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN TEACHER TRAINING ORGANIZED BY THE WORLD BANK THOUGH WORLD LINKS PROGRAM IN SENEGAL. AFTER THESE TRAINING, AN OPPORTUNITY WAS GIVEN TO ME TO TRAIN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS IN WORLD LINKS PROGRAM AND OTHERS ICT IN EDUCATION PROJECTS. ON BEHALF WORLD LINKS I WAS CONTACTED BY IEARN US TO PARTICIPATE ON A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT CALLED “LAWS OF LIFE” AND THIS BRING ME TO BECOME IEARN SENEGAL COORDINATOR. THIS RESPONSIBILITY HELPS ME REALIZE MY DREAM: TO MAKE TEACHERS INVOLVED IN THE USE OF ICT AS A TOOL, A MEAN TO IMPROVE OUR SKILLS AND CREATE NEW WAYS TO TEACHER BY SHARING EXCHANGING AND THEN LEARNING FROM OUR PEERS THROUGHOUT IEARN FORUM. IT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TOO FOR MY STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN MANY PROJECTS LIKE “AGAINST CHILD LABOUR”, “NATURAL DISASTERS”, “MY COUNTRY PROJECT....SEE: WWW.IEARN.ORG/PROJECTS IN 2000 WE OFFERED TRAININGS TO HELP SENSITIZE POPULATION ON THE USE OF ICT IN ALL LEVEL OF SOCIETY AND ACCORDING TO THE NEEDS. I MYSELF ORGANIZED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS IN AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO HELP DISCOVER THE POSSIBILITIES WE HAVE WITH USING THE COMPUTER AND OTHERS DIGITAL TOOLS. IN 2003 WE HAD A PARTNER THAT FUNDED THE TRANSPORTATION OF 17 TEACHERS FROM FIVE REGIONS IN SÉNÉGAL THAT I TRAINED ON HOW TO USE IEARN FORUM AND THE COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS TO DEVELOP NEW SKILLS. STUDENTS WERE TRAINED (WITH THE HELP OF PARTNERS) ON HOW TO USE A DIGITAL CAMERA TO TAKE PICTURES CREATE AN ALBUM AND COMMENT THE IMAGES. THE IMAGES WERE SENT TO A PROJECT CALLED DIGITAL CULTURAL EXCHANGE FUNDED BY UNESCO .MY STUDENTS AND ME WERE SELECTED TO TRAVEL TO NEW YORK FOR THE EXPOSITION OF THESE PICTURES AND YOUTH MEETING. IN 2005 IEARN SENEGAL IN PARTNERSHIP WITH IEARN US ORGANIZE THE “12TH IEARN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND THE 9TH YOUTH SUMMIT” IN DAKAR /SÉNÉGAL BECAUSE. |

| IEARN SENEGAL IS A NON PROFIT AND NON GOUVERNEMENTAL ORGANISATION WHICH IS PART OF THE IEARN MOVEMENT.CREATED IN 2000 IEARN-SENEGAL WORKS COLLABORATIVELY WITH A RANGE OF STAKEHOLDERS INVOLVED IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION OF THESE OBJECTIVES. THE ACTION OF IEARN-SENEGAL FOLLOWS THE WILL OF SENEGALESE GOVERNMENT TO FIGHT POVERTY THROUGH THE USE OF ICTS. IEARN- SENEGAL HAS THE ACTIVE SUPPORT AND PARTICIPATION OF THE SCHOOLS, PARENTS, STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION. IT HAS TRAINED OVER 155 TEACHERS AND MORE THAN 700 STUDENTS ON HOW TO USE ICT TO PARTICIPATE IN COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS IN THE FRAME OF IEARN FRIENDSHIP THROUGH EDUCATION PROGRAMS. SPECIFICALLY, IEARN-SENEGAL DECLARE IT’S COMMITMENT FOR: •TRAINING TEACHERS/STUDENTS IN THE INSTRUCTIONAL USE OF THE INTERNET; •PROVIDING ICTS AND PROFESSIONAL TRAINING TO TEACHERS AND STUDENTS WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON RURAL AREAS; •ASSISTING THE PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS WITH LOCAL CONTENT ADAPTATION, DEVELOPMENT, AND SHARING; •HELPING FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF USED COMPUTERS AND NETWORKS FROM THIS INITIATIVE; •HELPING IN MANAGEMENT COACHING AND TOOLS; •COACHING TEACHER/STUDENT TEAMS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL WEBSITES. |

| WHAT IS UNIQUE IN OUR PROJECT IS THAT BY CREATING A “DIGITAL EXCHANGE PROJECT” WE WILL BE ABLE TO TRAIN CHAMPIONS REPRESENTING OUR ORGANIZATION IN THE REGION AND THE LAST WILL TRAIN OTHER CHAMPIONS THAT HELP TEACHERS IN THE RURAL AREA. EACH TRAINED PERSON WILL BE IN CHARGE OF THE TRAINING OF AT LEST 10 OTHERS PERSON. THE SECOND IMPORTANT POINT IS THE TRAINING OF YOUTH. MY EXPERIENCE SHOWS ME THAT TRAINING AN INTERESTED YOUTH PERSON IS VERY BENEFIT BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTAND QUICKLY AND SHARES THEIR KNOWLEDGÈS EASIER. SECONDLY, THE AMERICAN EMBASSY IN SENEGAL FUNDS TEACHER TRAINING AND YOUTH ACTIVITIES THROUGH IEARN SENEGAL SCHOOL CLUBS IN URBAN AREAS. THIRDLY, PRIVATE PARTNERS SUCH AS SONATEL SENEGAL (A LOCAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS’ SOCIETY) OFFERED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE PARTICIPATION OF ABOUT TWENTY STUDENTS AT THE “12TH IEARN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND 9TH YOUTH SUMMIT” HELD IN SENEGAL IN JULY 2005. | THE BARRIERS TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF IEARN SENEGAL WERE FIRST OF ALL THE BUDGET BECAUSE IT WAS NOT KNOWN AND THERE WERE NO SPONSORS. THEN, THE OTHER MAJOR WAS THE ACCESS TO THE APPROPRIATE EQUIPMENT FOR THE ACTIVITIES WE WANTED TO RUN. HOWEVER, THE GREATEST PROBLEM WAS LINKED TO THE ADMINISTRATION BECAUSE THE USE OF ICTS IS NOT OFFICIAL IN THE SENEGALESE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM AND THE EDUCATIONAL AUTHORITIES WERE NOT CONFIDENT IN THE OUTCOME OF THE PROJECT. CONSEQUENTLY, TEACHERS WERE RELUCTANT TO JOIN THE PROJECT FOR INSTANCE OR WERE JUST NOT INTERESTED AT ALL. AS A RESULT OF THE BARRIERS TO THE IMPLEMENTATION, WE HAD A PROBLEM TO BE ACCEPTED BY THE PEOPLE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK WITH (MAINLY TEACHERS AND STUDENTS). TEACHERS SAW OUR PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES AS ADDITIONAL AND UNNECESSARY WORK. |

| TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS, WE DID A GREAT SEMINAR ON THE USE OF ICTS, IEARN FORUM AND THE DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED TO US BY THE RESOURCES ON THE NETWORK. THIS SEMINAR HELPS INFORM AND SENSITIZE PEOPLE ON OUR AIMS, OUR ACTIVITIES AND OUR PERSPECTIVES. THE SECOND IMPORTANT WAY TO COME UP WITH SOLUTIONS IS WORKING WITH LOCAL NGOS THAT CAN PROVIDE ICTS EQUIPMENT LIKE WORLD LINKS AND SOME OFFICES IN CHARGE OF THE ONLINE TEACHER TRAINING: RESAFAD (RÉSEAU AFRICAIN POUR LA FORMATION À DISTANCE). TEACHERS AND STUDENTS INVOLVED IN THE SEMINAR ARE AUTOMATICALLY ENROLLED FOR IEARN FORUM AND BEGIN TO EXCHANGE WITH THEIR PEERS. THIS WAS THE BEST STIMULATOR FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SOME DOUBT. WE CREATE POSTERS AND MANY DOCUMENTS SENT TO SCHOOL FOR MORE INFORMATION ON IEARN ACTIVITIES. ORGANIZING THE “12TH IEARN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND 9TH YOUTH SUMMIT” WE MAKES IEARN MUCH MORE KNOWN AND TRUSTED . |

| IEARN - SENEGAL HAS A WIDE RANG OF PERSPECTIVES IN SHORT TERM -TRAINING TEACHERS AND STUDENTS IN THE RURAL AREAS, -CREATE CONTENT POSTED ON THE FORUM TO HELP BENEFIT FROM THE RESOURCES, -TO TRAIN IN THE NATIONAL LEVEL MORE THAN 1000 TEACHERS AND MORE THAN 5000 STUDENTS, -MAKE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS INVOLVED IN COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS AND IEARN FORUM TO DEVELOP NEW SKILLS FOR IMPROVING TEACHING AND LEARNING. -DEVELOP PEDAGOGICAL CONTENTS AND E-LEARNING PLATFORM FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
