A river streaming the web

The third edition of the Global Junior Challenge awarded the project Boat Based Distance Education Sharing Open Learning, Knowledge, Resources on Tecnology by the ONG Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha in the special category Equal Opportunities.
Internet BoatThis Bangladesh organization uses boats to deliver education and technology to flood-prone regions. This project was awarded in the Global Junior Challenge for its social impact towards citizens: women, children and youths.
Internet BoatNow, we are pleased to inform that Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha received the 2005 Access to Learning Award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for the pioneering approach to bridging the digital divide and connecting children and women to information via free public access computers and the Internet. The Access to Learning Award of US $1 million will enable Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha to expand Boat Library programs to meet an increasing demand. See website: www.gatesfoundation.org.
Children and computerMoreover, the Tech Museum Awards is featuring updates from Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha in this year's Tech Awards Gala program and also on their new web site which will be going live in October 2005.
Finally, Ericsson's Outlook Magazine is publishing the project story in their next edition and the Stockholm Challenge Award is including a project feature about Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha on the Challenge website soon.
